Training of media on VPA

Working group on Forest Certification is partnering with the European Union to strengthen community based forest stakeholders and key actors in the wood supply chain in three major timber producing areas in Ghana for the Implementation of EU timber regulations and the new domestic market policy.

As part of the project's objectives, Working Group organized a day's workshop to train community radio stations in the Bibiani, Juaboso and Wiawso forest districts to enhance their knowledge on the VPA and enable them effectively communicate and disseminate information on VPA related issues to the general public.

The objective of the workshop was to train the media particularly community radio presenters on forest laws, policies and FLEGT/VPA actions to enable them facilitate the dissemination of information on VPA to the general public. It is expected that local community radio stations and information centers will play active part in informing and mobilizing communities to monitor, report and arrest illegal chainsaw operators, facilitate community level discussions on VPA and FLEGT actions to mitigate infringement on forest laws.

The workshop organized on the 29th of July, 2014 at the Queen Elizabeth Restaurant conference hall was attended by 29 radio presenters and community information center attendants.
